The organization provides assistance by investigating, researching, and preparing documents necessary to establish the innocence of wrongly convicted individuals in New York State. As part of that effort, the organization’s paralegal staff will prepare comprehensive case briefs for submission to the appropriate Conviction/Integrity Review Unit and/or wrongful conviction attorneys if needed.
The process begins with an application process designed to evaluate the needs of the applicant, the validity of his or her claims, and the potential for successful litigation of an actual innocence claim. If the application is deemed viable, the organization will assist the applicant in preparing case briefs and will seek representation by pairing the applicant with a possible pro-bono counsel.
